Roundtable Discussion on Legal Frameworks for Civil Society in Iraq

As part of the “Mubadra” project, and in partnership with Un Ponte Per – UPP and with the support of the European Union, we held a roundtable session on Wednesday, December 11, at Ufuq Organization’s headquarters in Baghdad.

The session brought together representatives from official institutions, including the Iraqi Parliament, the NGO Directorate, representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the National Security Advisory, the Human Rights Commission, and the Martyrs Foundation, along with civil society organizations. The discussions focused on a comprehensive study we conducted regarding the legal and regulatory frameworks governing civil society in Iraq. The study’s key findings and recommendations were presented, and participants exchanged views on the challenges and obstacles faced by civil society, as well as the importance of strengthening partnerships between official institutions and civil society organizations.

The discussions addressed opportunities and challenges related to enhancing collaboration between the two sectors in alignment with the constitution and applicable laws. The session concluded with clear recommendations and actionable steps aimed at fostering civil liberties and supporting sustainable partnerships among the stakeholders.
